Bald Eagles Near Oaks Bottom

How awesome is Portland?  We were on our way to Trader Joe’s for a routine grocery run when we saw–not more than a few blocks from our house–two bald eagles resting in a tree.  How long were they resting?  Enough time to go back home, grab the camera (which would’ve benefited from a zoom lens) and snap some photos.  You can’t really tell from these pictures how close the eagles were.  You could see their heads and beaks and their feathers ruffle in the wind.  They looked huge.  Later, I saw them take flight and… wow.  It was an unexpected thrill on an otherwise normal Sunday afternoon.
